Ranni's half-wolf companion Blaidd is a trustworthy ally who assists the player throughout the entirety of the questline but ultimately meets a tragic end when he is imprisoned in an evergaol.

The Greater Will's influence over Blaidd would eventually force him to attack Ranni, which means that he is doomed to die if Ranni hopes to succeed in her plans. Blaidd was loyal to Ranni, but the Greater Will's influence over him would eventually force him to do so.

Elden Ring, in typical fashion for a game developed by FromSoftware, features a plethora of tragic heroes and stories of loss that are intended to evoke profound feelings of sympathy in direct contrast to the harshness of the world. The journey that The Tarnished must take to reach the conclusion of templar elden ring is a violent one that will most likely result in the death of a large number of adversaries and non-playable characters at the hands of the player; however, one particular character may experience the most tragic conclusion of them all.

Ranni the Witch is a pivotal character in the narrative of Elden Ring, and it is likely that many players have carried out her orders at some point. Ranni, an Empyrean who was selected by The Greater Will as a candidate for the god of a new age, defied her destiny and was the mastermind behind the events that transpired during the Night of Black Knives, which ultimately resulted in the destruction of the Elden Ring. Her storyline requires the player to assist her and her half-wolf companion, Blaidd, in ultimately deposing The Greater Will and achieving the Age of Stars ending, but in the end, the player is the only one standing by her side when it's all said and done.

The Part Played by Blaidd in Ranni's Questline

  • Blaidd, an intimidating figure who can be encountered early on in Limgrave, turns out to be friendly and seems noble in his pursuit of a traitor despite the fact that he is on the hunt for one

  • It is established that he is the most loyal to Ranni due to his active role in her machinations after he is later seen in spectral form among Iji and Seluvis in the Three Sisters area beyond Caria Manor in Liurnia

  • After meeting the player down in Siofra River and directing them towards the way to discover the truth about Starscourge Radahn, Blaidd demonstrates his unwavering commitment to assisting his master by going the extra mile to guide them to the truth

Those who fight alongside Blaidd during the Radahn Festival will remember him as an invaluable ally due to the significant contributions he is able to make to the conflict. Blaidd will never be able to reach Nokron as he had planned to due to the fact that Radahn will be vanquished and the stars will fall, thereby allowing a meteor to open the way there. He is currently being held captive in an evergaol by Iji, who is unsure of the level of threat he currently poses to his allies. Blaidd will eventually reappear at Three Sisters in an aggressive state, at which point the player will be compelled to finish him off and kill him for good.

Blaidd was unable to evade this reality in the end because he was a Shadowbound Beast that had been created for the sole purpose of serving an Empyrean. Ranni's objective while she is in Nokron is to acquire the Fingerslayer Blade so that she can kill her own Two Fingers and advance her plot against The Greater Will. However, Shadows such as Blaidd are essentially programmed to kill their master in the event that they are betrayed, and Ranni's goal is to kill her own Two Fingers. The fact that he was able to keep his sanity for such a considerable amount of time after the Night of Black Knives is already an anomaly in and of itself, given that his devotion to Ranni was strong enough for him to defy the directives of his own maker. He fights until the very end, only giving in reluctantly as he transforms into yet another evil Baleful Shadow of The Greater Will.

Even though Blaidd's unending devotion to Ranni is something to be admired, it seems that Ranni herself plays a more complex role in his life. Even though she was unaware that Blaidd was being held captive by Iji, she still sent her signature Black Knife Assassins to eliminate him in the end. This strongly suggests that she was aware of the eventual outcome that would befall him. On the way to the conclusion of Elden Ring's Age of Stars storyline, all of Ranni's followers are killed, so the price that she pays in blood is not a small one. It is highly unlikely that Ranni would have ever done the same for Blaidd as he did for his master, despite the fact that Blaidd was willing to defy the purpose for which he was created.
